Frappe, the team behind ERPNext are absolutely passionate about ERPNext and strive every day to improve it. That's one of the things that we considered at cloud ERP South Africa when we went out to select a solution that was worth supporting and providing as a service to our own customers. We wanted only the best for our own customers and wanted them to enjoy an agile, easy to use and above all, the best of the genuinely freely available ERP Accounting solution the market had to offer. The Frappe team rolls out updates on a weekly and sometimes bi-weekly basis to ERPNext and sometimes it’s easy to overlook the excellent work and fantastic features they continue to add.

Below is a list of top 5 features that were released in the first quarter of 2016 that we absolutely loved and now wonder how we managed to get by without them!

#1 Ecommerce website integration to PayPal

No ecommerce website is truly complete without a payment gateway. ERPNext only had a single integration to Shopify before PayPal was introduced and for many, that was a deal breaker. However that has all changed and now the product has integration to PayPal. This means that users can now request payment via PayPal when invoicing customers using one of the world’s most secure and popular payment platforms

#2New, sleeker user friendly interface

As if ERPNext wasn't sleek enough already, the past quarter saw the rollout of a new sleek interface that makes the product even more user friendly. We loved the ability to create desktop shortcuts for commonly used features, eliminating the need to navigate the menu which previously took two extra clicks/swipes. This may not sound like much but this makes for a pleasant user experience especially on a mobile device where data must be captured on the go.

#3 Super quick data entry forms.

One of the most common complaints about working via a browser is data entry speed. This was addressed by expanding the quick data entry feature to as many forms as possible- making for an even more pleasant user experience

#4 Team collaboration tools

The kings of workplace productivity tools on the market are undeniably web based apps such as Trello and Wrike. This makes sense when you consider that getting different teams under one roof has increasingly become a costly luxury with departments and team members being spread across vast geographical areas.

The Frappe team, the team behind ERPNext has stepped up their game in this domain by incorporating some nifty productivity tools into their ERP Accounting solution such as

  • the ability to ‘like/love’ (mark as favourite)any transaction on ERPNext- after, you can get a detailed report of all liked transactions in just a single click

  • sharing documents/transactions with other users with the aim being to collaborate

  • assign transactions/documents to a specific user.

  • after assigning documents to the user, further specify a completion by date and even give it a priority status from low, medium and high

  • When a transaction is assigned to a specific user, it immediately pops up on their ‘to do list’. These simple and yet powerful features ensures that nothing slips through the cracks and raise the operational efficiency of the entire business.

    #5 Enterprise Content Management

    Management of business files became one less headache on ERPNext with the addition of a brand new content management module being added in the first quarter of 2016. The enhancement saw all business files being centrally managed in a single location within the ERP. This empowered users by adding much needed detail to file storage as users can easily see which transaction type (for example sales order, purchase order, sales invoice, payment etc.) and the transaction number an attachment/ file is linked to. This brand new content management does away with the unnecessary admin of managing business folders and documents on computers and we absolutely loved it!
